How a hob with an integrated extractor works

Instead of a hood on the ceiling, the extractor sits in the centre of the hob and draws the fumes downwards before they rise. BORA, founded in 2007 by cabinetmaker Willi Bruckbauer, makes this type of hob. They can vent the air outside or recirculate it through an activated carbon filter.

Which model suits your kitchen

  • S PURE, 60 cm cabinet. Induction zones: 2 round and 2 square. Noise: 28–53 dB(A).
  • PURE, 80 cm cabinet. Induction zones: 4 round. Noise: 29–54 dB(A).
  • M PURE, 80 cm cabinet. Induction zones: 2 round and 2 square. Noise: 29–54 dB(A).
  • X PURE, 90 cm cabinet. Induction zones: 4 square zones that can be joined. Noise: 29–54 dB(A).

The BASIC is a radiant hob with a Hyper zone and works with any pan, including copper and ceramic ones. CLASSIC 2.0 and PROFESSIONAL 3.0 are modular systems: you combine the extractor with induction, gas, wok or teppanyaki zones.

Recirculation or external venting

If you can run a duct outside, that is the best option. If not, recirculation works, but the moisture stays in the house, so it is worth ventilating, especially in winter on the island. In a kitchen island with recirculation, the air returns through the plinth, which needs an opening of at least 500 cm². Your carpenter or fitter prepares the duct and the plinth opening before the hob is installed.

Maintenance

In recirculation mode, the carbon filter in the Pure range lasts around 150 hours of use and the hob tells you when it needs changing. The grease filters go in the dishwasher.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about BORA

Can't find your question? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll get back to you.

Does it really extract downwards?

Yes. The extractor draws in the steam at about 4 m/s, faster than it rises (around 1 m/s). BORA measures an average capture rate of 96% in its own test.

What about tall pots?

With pots up to about 20 cm it captures the steam without any problem. With taller pots, BORA recommends tilting the lid towards the extractor.

Is it noisy?

The Pure range goes from 28–29 dB(A) at the lowest setting to 53–54 dB(A) at the highest, and 56 in boost mode, according to BORA's data sheets.

Does the house smell if it recirculates?

The carbon filter retains odours, but not moisture. If possible, external venting is the best option; if not, you need to ventilate.

How often is the filter changed?

On the Pure range, after about 150 hours of use; the hob shows a reminder on the display. Those on the modular systems last 300 or 600 hours.

Do I lose a drawer?

With the Pure range, only the top one; depending on the installation, the ones below may need shortening.

Can I put an oven underneath?

BORA does not recommend it: it leaves no access for servicing and can overheat.

BORA or a Siemens hob with extractor?

We sell both: the Siemens ED81AHQ26E and the BORA S PURE. We help you compare noise, filters and cooking zones.
