Built-in or countertop

A built-in coffee machine does the same as a countertop bean-to-cup: it grinds the beans and makes milk-based coffees. The difference is that it goes in a 45 cm niche in a tall unit and keeps the worktop clear. The Miele models need a niche 56 to 56.8 cm wide and 50 or 55 cm deep. The Gaggenau models open to the left and must be 35 cm from the side wall, or 10 cm with an opening limiter.

Water tank or fixed connection

With a fixed connection you don't have to refill the tank: the Gaggenau GC461120 connects to the water supply and the Miele CVA 7845 has DirectWater. The CVA 7440, CVA 7840 and GC451120 work with a tank. On all of them, the drip tray is emptied by hand.

Regular and decaf

If you want both without emptying the container, choose the CVA 7840 or CVA 7845: they take three types of beans at once.

Milk and cleaning

The Miele models use a 0.7-litre glass jug and rinse the milk system automatically; the CVA 7840 and CVA 7845 add AutoClean. The Gaggenau models clean the system with steam after every drink, and the jug goes in the dishwasher.

Limescale: the maintenance that matters most in Mallorca

With hard water, limescale can cause drips under the machine, according to Miele. That is why the water hardness has to be set when it is installed. The CVA 7840 and 7845 descale themselves (AutoDescale), the CVA 7440 with a manual programme and the Gaggenau models automatically with cartridges; they also take an optional water filter. We set the water hardness on installation day and can supply the filter; filtering the water does not replace descaling.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about built-in coffee machines

Can't find your question? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll get back to you.

Built-in or countertop bean-to-cup?

Both grind the beans and make milk-based coffees. The built-in one goes in a 45 cm niche in a tall unit and keeps the worktop clear.

Fixed water connection or tank?

With a fixed connection you don't refill the tank, but you need a water connection next to the niche. Here, the Gaggenau GC461120 and the Miele CVA 7845 have one.

Can I have regular and decaf coffee?

Yes, with the Miele CVA 7840 or CVA 7845, which take three types of beans at once.

How is the milk system cleaned?

The Miele models rinse it automatically after use, and the CVA 7840 and CVA 7845 have AutoClean. The Gaggenau models clean it with steam after every drink.

How often does it need descaling?

It depends on the water hardness set when it is installed; the machine works out when it is due. The CVA 7840 and CVA 7845 do it themselves.

Does it have a water filter?

Yes, there is a water filter for both Miele and Gaggenau coffee machines; the Gaggenau one has a change indicator. Filtering the water does not replace descaling, which still has to be done.

What niche does it need?

A niche 45 cm high. The Miele models, 56 to 56.8 cm wide and 50 or 55 cm deep; the Gaggenau models, 35 cm from the side wall, or 10 cm with a limiter.

Can it go above a warming drawer?

Yes. The Gaggenau models go directly on top. The Miele CVA models are combined with a suitable warming drawer following their installation instructions; if the drawer is not designed for that combination, a closed intermediate shelf may be needed.
