Washer-dryer or stacked washer and dryer

A washer-dryer takes up the space of a single machine, but dries less than it washes: the Miele WTD160 washes 8 kg and dries 5, and the Siemens iQ700 10.5 and 6. Its label has two classes; the WTD160 is A for washing only and D for washing and drying. With a washing machine and dryer stacked, you dry the full load and can use both at once. They are joined with the brand's kit: Miele WTV 611 or WTV 501, and Siemens WZ20311 or WTZ11300.

Dryers: heat pump only since July 2025

EU rules now only allow new heat-pump dryers to be placed on the market, with a label from A to G and consumption per 100 cycles. That is why you will no longer see "A+++": Miele dryers are now in classes B and C. Heat-pump dryers also condense the water, and the label includes a condensation class (A on the Miele TEL785WP).

Capacity and spin speed

The Spanish consumer organisation OCU suggests: up to 6 kg for 1 or 2 people, 7 kg for 2 or 3, 8 kg for 4 and 9 kg for larger families. A 10 or 11 kg machine makes sense with a lot of laundry or bulky textiles. The higher the spin speed, the drier the laundry comes out: the label sums this up in a spin-drying class, which is A if less than 45% moisture remains.

Noise and space

The washing machine's label shows the spin noise (class A below 73 dB), and Miele dryers are between 60 and 64 dB(A). The dryer collects the water in a tank or drains it through a hose. Measure with the door open too: the TEL785WP is 63.6 cm deep and 105.4 cm with the door open.

Quick programmes and steam

On Miele machines, QuickPowerWash washes 5 kg in 49 minutes and SteamCare finishes the wash with steam to reduce creases.

Washer-dryer or stacked washer and dryer?

A washer-dryer saves space, but dries fewer kilos than it washes and uses more energy washing and drying. With two machines stacked you dry the full load and can wash and dry at the same time.

What capacity do I need?

As a guide from the OCU: up to 6 kg for 1 or 2 people, 7 kg for 2 or 3, 8 kg for 4 and 9 kg for more. 10 or 11 kg machines are for lots of laundry or duvets.

Condenser or heat-pump dryer?

Since July 2025 only new heat-pump dryers can be placed on the EU market. They also condense the water, but without a heating element, and use less energy.

Can the dryer go on top of the washing machine?

Yes, with the brand's stacking kit. All Miele dryers can be installed in a stack. We work with the Miele WTV 611 and WTV 501 kits and the Siemens WZ20311 and WTZ11300; we tell you which one fits your appliances.

Does the dryer need a drain?

No. The water collects in a tank that you empty by hand; if there is a drain nearby, you can connect it with a hose.

1,400 or 1,600 rpm?

A higher spin speed leaves less moisture in the laundry and shortens drying. The label shows this with the spin-drying class: A if less than 45% moisture remains.

Are there built-in washer-dryers?

The Miele WTI360 can be installed under a worktop or in a suitable space, but it is freestanding: it is not hidden behind a cabinet door.
